Post-primary pulmonary tuberculosis

Presentation

The patient presented with night sweats, cough and dyspnoea. She had lost 10 kg of weight within the last 3 months and tested positive for HIV.

Case Discussion

Imaging studies showed a predominantly fibroproductive form of TB, that also included exsudative foci (Fig. 5) and cavitations. Infiltrates and multiple saccular bronchiectases were present in the lower lobes. Emphysematous bullae were found in the pulmonary apices (Fig. 4). A Ranke complex could be identified in the left upper lobe (Fig. 6).
