Post-traumatic diffuse cerebral edema

Comatous patient after motor vehicle accident (MVA).

Patient Data

Age: 20-30
Gender: Male

Noncontrast CT shows diffuse hypodensity of the bilateral cerebral hemispheres with loss of white-gray matter differentiation suggesting diffuse cerebral edema. The lateral and third ventricles are slit-like, there is diffuse effacement of the cerebral sulci (pseudo-SAH).

No intraparenchymal or subdural hematoma was noted.

Posterior fossa and brainstem are unremarkable.

This case shows classical CT findings of diffuse brain edema.
