Post-traumatic soft tissue cyst - forearm

Presentation

Two months prior to the presentation, the patient had a non-penetrating injury to the posterior side of left left forearm. She presented with a complaint of swelling at the site of injury.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

Ovoid well-defined soft tissue swelling involving the posterior side of the proximal forearm. The lesion is in the subcutaneous plane. The lesion is closer to the skin distally. There are fat density globules within. There is no calcification. There is no fracture / dislocation / elbow effusion.

Encapsulated lesion in the subcutaneous plane of the proximal posterior forearm region. There is a thin capsule all around the lesion. There are mobile, tiny internal echoes. There are a few avascular septa and echogenic fat lobules. The lesion is deformable. The approximate size of the lesion is 55 x 31 x 14 mm.

The case shows x-ray and ultrasound findings of a post-traumatic soft tissue cyst involving the forearm. The x-ray shows the intracystic fat globules exceptionally well.
