Post traumatic soft tissue cyst - leg

Blunt trauma to anterior leg - 4 mths. C/o non-painful fluctuant swelling locally.

Patient Data

Age: 21 yrs
Gender: Male

There is anechoic collection in subcutaneous plane of proximal leg on anterior aspect. It is close of tibial contex; but does not abutt it.  It is compressible. There is well-defined thin wall ( pseudo-capsule ) around lesion. There is no flow in wall. Collection shows a thin septa septa along with a fat lobule.

  • Cranio-caudal      -100 mm
  • Transverse          - 50  mm
  • Antero-posterior  - 15  mm

Case Discussion

Ultrasound finding of subcutaneous soft tissue cyst in leg after blunt trauma. If morphologically similar lesion is seen involving greater tronchanteric region of thigh; it is labelled as Morel-Lavallée lesion.
