Post-traumatic splenic pseudocyst

Presentation

Abdominal pain and left upper abdominal fullness

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

There is a huge splenic cyst measuring approximately 20 x 18 x 15 cm with multiple foci of calcification in its wall. No thickened wall, daughter cysts, floating membranes or double wall. 

This large cyst compresses and displaces the stomach, pancreas, colon and left kidney.

Minimal left subphrenic fluid. Fat stranding is noted in the left mid abdomen.

No liver cysts. No soft tissue masses. No enlarged lymph nodes.

The lungs are clear. No lung cysts. No mediastinal or hilar lymph nodes enlargement.

No pleural or pericardial effusion.

Case Discussion

The patient gave history of a road traffic accident four years ago with no major injuries. Intraoperatively, the surgeon found a huge splenic cyst with filled with old blood, compatible with a post-traumatic splenic pseudocyst.
