Patient Data

Age: 85 years
Gender: Male

Abnormal areas of T2/ FLAIR hyperintensity with diffusion restriction are seen involving the bilateral occipital lobe, left cerebellar hemisphere, and the brain stem suggestive of acute infarctions.

Abrupt cut off of the basilar artery on non-contrast-enhanced MRA  suggestive of acute thrombosis.

Cerebral angiography was performed to aspirate and extract the blood clot. The clot was successfully retrieved and shows revascularization of the basilar artery.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates acute posterior circulation infarction due to basilar artery occlusion, which resolved by endovascular clot retrieval.
