Presentation
Contusive trauma with hyperextension of the right leg.
Patient Data
Irregularity of the posterior tibial fovea, associated with avulsion of bone fragments: the signs are related to avulsion fracture of the posterior cruciate ligament. A moderate periarticular fluid effusion is present, most evident in the retropatellar recess.
Incidental coexisting Baker's cyst.
Case Discussion
CT is useful to detect avulsion fractures of the posterior cruciate ligament and the complications arising from that condition. In this case, CT images show avulsion of bone fragments from the posterior tibial fovea, periarticular fluid effusion, and an incidental Baker's cyst.
