Presentation

Motor vehicle accident. Ongoing knee pain and tenderness.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Full thickness posterior cruciate ligament tear. Marrow edema in the region of iliotibial band insertion. Moderate knee joint effusion without lipohemarthrosis. Anterior cruciate ligament is intact. No fracture identified.

Both medial and lateral collateral ligaments are intact. No meniscal injury. No cartilage injury. Old Osgood-Schlatter disease.

Case Discussion

Isolated posterior cruciate ligament tears are much less common than anterior cruciate ligament tears.
