Posterior fossa meningioma

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Posterior fossa meningioma diagnosed 3 months ago in surgery plan.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Female
mri

A voluminous extra-axial lesion located in the left lateral sector of the posterior fossa with a rounded aspect and dural base is identified, which after gadolinium administration presents intense enhancement. It generates mass effect on the local cerebellum identifying parenchymal edema, partial obliteration of the fourth ventricle and occupation of the foramen magnum at the expense of tonsillar descent. Partial invasion into the homolateral transverse/sigmoid sinus was observed without generating thrombosis.

Case Discussion

Meningiomas are extra-axial tumors and represent the most common primary intracranial neoplasm.
Certain characteristics of the tumor must be taken into account when making our reports as they have surgical implications such as consistency of the tumor, its irrigation, relationship with the venous system and adjacent structures.
In posterior fossa meningiomas it is important to evaluate their relationship with the venous sinuses, if there is compression of the fourth ventricle and if they generate herniations.
