Posterior inferior cerebellar artery territory infarct

Presentation

Previously healthy man, complains from headache, vomiting and vertigo for last 3 days.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

T2WI and FLAIR hyperintense, T1WI hypointense signals with diffusion restriction in the right posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) territory (postero-inferior aspect of right cerebellar hemisphere).

Case Discussion

Posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) occlusion can result infarct of the posterior inferior cerebellum, inferior cerebellar vermis and lateral medulla.

MRI is the modality of choice for confirming the infarction and evaluation of the vessels.
