Presentation

Knee pain.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

MRI knee demonstrate a large posterior meniscal root tear of the medial meniscus.

Consecutive medial parasagittal T1 images of the knee (A-D). The white arrows label the posterior horn and root of the medial meniscus. Image C shows absence of the posterior horn of the meniscus (red asterisk) so called "ghost meniscus".

Coronal FS T2 confirms a large posterior meniscal root tear (red arrow) and there is associated medial meniscal extrusion (yellow arrow).
