Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome

Young woman presents with four episodes of convulsions.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

FLAIR sequences shows abnormal hyperintensity in the frontal, parietal and occipital subcortical regions.There is no diffusion restriction.No abnormal enhancement is seen on post contrast study.

MR vengography appears normal. No evidence of dural venous thrombosis.

Case Discussion

This patient had undergone a Cesarian section 3 days previously and was hypertensive.

The imaging features and clinical history are consistent with posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES)
