Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome

Presentation

In the third trimester of pregnancy, presenting with a headache and sudden loss of vision in both eyes.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female

Edema and T2/FLAIR hyperintensities in bilateral parietooccipital lobes and basal ganglia. No significant diffusion restriction is seen.

Case Discussion

History and imaging findings are quite typical of posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES). The blood pressure was brought under control with antihypertensives and the patient recovered in a few days.
