Posttraumatic soft-tissue cyst - leg

Blunt trauma to left lower leg - antero-medial aspect - 5 wks back. C/o developing swelling locally after 3 wks of trauma. No pain locally. Referred for ultrasound for the lesion in leg.

Patient Data

Age: about 40 yrs
Gender: Male

There is an anechoic lesion in subcutaneous plane of distal leg --- anterior - medial aspect.

Thin perceptible wall is noted around most part of the lesion.

Non-mobile fat globules are noted within; anchored by few thin septa.

Lesion is compressible.

No flow is noted in wall.

Approximate Size : 53 x 35 x 20 mm.

Case Discussion

Findings of post traumatic ( Blunt trauma  ) encapsulated collection is subcutaneous plane of leg.

If morphologically similar lesion is noted over greater trochanter region of thigh, it is called Morel Lavallée lesion.
