Preaxial polydactyly of the right hand (thumb). This corresponds to type VI duplication according to the Wassel classification, characterised by complete duplication of the entire thumb ray, including the metacarpal, proximal, and distal phalanges.

Case Discussion

Preaxial polydactyly with complete duplication of the entire thumb ray, consistent with Wassel type VI classification.

Polydactyly can be broadly categorised into preaxial, postaxial, and central polydactyly.

Polydactyly is largely isolated, although it can be associated with a wide range of other malformations. If it is an isolated anomaly, it is typically sporadic and not a cause for concern. However, when associated with other anomalies, the prognosis can vary significantly depending on the rest of the syndrome.
