Patient Data

Age: 90 years

Symmetrical encephalomalacia in both frontal lobes with overlying burr holes which suggest previous surgery.

Case Discussion

This patient had a previous prefrontal lobotomy for schizophrenia in their 20s. The symmetry and overlying burr holes are key to working out that this appearance is due to previous surgery.
