Pregnancy with IUCD

Presentation

Positive urine pregnancy test.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years old
Gender: Female
ultrasound

There is a single gestational sac in the fundal region along with a yolk sac. There is no fetal pole at present. There is a subchorionic fluid rim. 

Intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) in the lower endometrial and cervical canal.

Left ovary shows a corpus luteum.

Case Discussion

Findings of failed IUCD, which occur in 0.2-0.8% of patients depending on the type of IUCD.

Pregnancies with an IUCD in situ have worse outcomes than pregnancies without or if the IUCD is removed after pregnancy.
