Case Discussion

Prepatellar bursitis (a.k.a housemaid's knee) refers to inflammation and fluid collection within the prepatellar bursa anterior to the patella.

It can be either acute due to infection or direct trauma, or chronic caused by overuse or friction from activities where you sit on your knees for long periods of time (hence the appellation housemaid's knee).
