Primary CNS lymphoma: involving the septum pellucidum

Presentation

42 years old female HIV positive with AIDS. Previous (other service) diagnosis of CNS lymphoma with MRI and contrasted CT not available. A non-contrast CT study was requested.

A hyperattenuating mass enlarging septum pellucidum and in contact with ependymal surfaces.

Case Discussion

The images show a hyperattenuating mass enlarging septum pellucidum and in contact with ependymal surfaces.It is also seen hypoattenuating white matter.

There is a strong association of primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) with HIV/AIDS and immunocompromised states. Approximately 2 - 6% of patients with HIV will develop PCNSL.
