Presentation
HIV positive patient with AIDS. Previous (another service) diagnosis of CNS lymphoma with MRI and contrasted CT, both not available for comparison. A non-contrast CT study was requested.
Patient Data
Note: This case has been tagged as "legacy" as it no longer meets image preparation and/or other case publication guidelines.
There is an extensive hyperattenuating mass enlarging the septum pellucidum.
Case Discussion
The images show a hyperattenuating mass enlarging septum pellucidum that is in keeping with the known diagnosis of CNS lymphoma. The hyper attenuation of the mass is consistent with the high cellularity present in lymphoma.
There is a strong association of primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) with HIV/AIDS and immunocompromised states, with approximately 2 to 6% of patients with HIV developing PCNSL.
