Presentation
Recurrent cholangitis. Ulcerative colitis.
Patient Data
Age: 45 years
Gender: Male
From the case:
Primary sclerosing cholangitis
ERCP

The bile ducts show alternating segments of constriction and dilatation forming a 'beaded' appearance. This is consistent with primary sclerosing cholangitis.
Case Discussion
Primary sclerosing cholangitis is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation of the intra and extrahepatic bile ducts, ultimately leading to their obstruction. This may go on to cause hepatic failure. Around 80% of people with PSC have ulcerative colitis.
