Primitive trigeminal artery with fetal PCOM

Patient under evaluation for stroke

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

MR noncontrast angiography done for evaluation of patient with transient loss of consciousness.

MRI

There is a persistent fetal caroticobasilar anastomosis on the right side just caudad to the bifurcation of basilar into P1 segment of PCA- the primitive trigeminal artery.

Also evident is the unilateral fetal origin of PCOM, wherein the right PCOM is larger in caliber than P1 segment of PCA which appears hypoplastic.

Case Discussion

Incidental finding of fetal origin of right  PCA with right persistent primitive trigeminal artery .
