Known metastatic melanoma

Gender: Male

A subpleural pulmonary nodule is noted at the posterior segment of right lower lobe surrounded with a ground-glass halo.

Case Discussion

The CT halo sign depicts peri-lesion ground-glass attenuation. A myriad of causes but specific to this case, the ground-glass attenuation is likely to reflect peritumor alveolar hemorrhage. Certain hypervascular lung metastases can manifest with the CT halo sign due to the fragility of neovascular tissue 1.
