Prominent perihepatic fat

Case contributed by Jeremy Jones
Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Generalized upper abdominal pain. Vomiting. Concern for perforation clinically.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Generalized low attenuation around the liver, in keeping with peri-hepatic fat.  Non-specific bowel gas pattern.

Case Discussion

The clinical team performed this examination and were concerned that the low attenuation around the liver was gas and indicated perforation.  They requested a CT to determine the source of perforation.

In fact, it is just perihepatic fatty deposition - a CT wasn't necessary!
