Prostatic abscess (MRI)

No pertinent past medical history with lower urinary tract system. PSA: 153 ng/ml. The prostate is hard on rectal examination.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

MR reveals an irregular cystic area on the left side posterior to the prostatic urethra. Diffusion imaging reveals restricted diffusion in the area.

MRS reveals high choline to citrate ratio.

Case Discussion

A diagnosis of prostatic abscess was made; the abscess was drained under transrectal ultrasound guidance.

Culture: Klebsiella species

Patient treated with antibiotics.

Final diagnosis: Prostatic abscess
