A well defined cystic lesion is seen in the medial aspect of the left prostatic lobe close to the course of the prostatic urethra measuring1.28 x 1.41 x 0.88 cm. Volume = 0.83 cc. It shows well defined mildly thickened walls with multiple internal echoes and fluid content.
This case likely represensts a prostatic abscess versus infected prostatic retention cyst.
Prostatic abscess is an uncommon condition, often difficult to discern clinically from acute prostatitis. It results from focal accumulation of pus within the prostate gland. Transrectal or percutaneous transperineal aspiration and drainage is required in most cases.
