Presentation

Trauma to the hand. Tenderness of the left thumb.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Radiographs revealed an extra-articular fracture of the base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb.

Case Discussion

Thumb phalanx fractures can result from direct trauma to the hand, these are less common than thumb metacarpal fractures which also often result from direct trauma.
