Proximal radial shaft fracture with radial head subluxation

Case contributed by Dr Andrew Dixon

Fall on an outstretched hand (FOOSH).

Patient Data

Age: 5 years
Gender: Male

There is a mildly dorsally angulated greenstick fracture of the left proximal radial shaft. Subtle accompanying bowing deformity of the ulna. The radiocapitellar alignment is abnormal with the radial neck appearing dorsally subluxed relative to the capitellum.

Case Discussion

An example of a greenstick fracture of the radial head with radial head dislocation.

The angulation of the fracture together and the radiocapitellar malalignment suggest the diagnosis.
