Presentation

15-year-old boy reports a falling injury to his left knee during sports.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male

The fracture involves both the epiphyseal plate and the metaphysis: Salter-Harris II epiphyseal fracture. Note the small corner of the metaphysis.

Post-operative radiographs: percutaneous K (Kirschner) wire fixation.

Case Discussion

Type II is the most common Salter-Harris fracture (85%). Lateral radiograph shows a displaced proximal tibia. The fracture involves both the epiphyseal plate and the metaphysis (Note the small corner of metaphysis).
