Case contributed by Dai Roberts
Diagnosis not applicable

Presentation

Posterolateral knee pain. Injection for diagnostic/therapeutic purposes.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male

An oblique view was obtained to open the access to the proximal tibiofibular joint. Using an aseptic technique, a 25 gauge needle was used to access the joint.  Injection of iodinated contrast confirmed an intra-articular position.  The steroid injectate was then given.

Case Discussion

Technically successful proximal tibiofibular joint injection, which is not frequently performed.  It can be performed under fluoroscopy and US.  Angling the tube will help open the joint, to make the joint more accessible.
