Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Minimally displaced transverse fracture of the base of the first metacarpal.  No intra-articular extension.

Old non-united ulnar styloid fracture. 

Case Discussion

An example of a pseudo-Bennett (or epibasal) fracture of the thumb, which in distinction from Bennett or Rolando fractures does not have intra-articular extension. 

They usually arise from longitudinal axial loading and are classically stable and often do not require operative intervention.
