Pseudo-Jones fracture

Presentation

The patient accidentally twisted his right foot while walking 2 days ago, on examination: tenderness & swelling, dorsolateral aspect of the right foot.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is a comminuted intra-articular fracture of the base of the metatarsal of the right fifth toe.

The appearances are that of an avulsion fracture ( pseudo-Jones fracture ).

The mid-foot alignment is normal.

Case Discussion

The fracture is located 1 cm distal to the joint, whereas a Jones fracture is typically located at least 2 cm distal to the joint.

A Jones fracture does not involve the joint.
