Pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis

Widespread nodular and confluent opacification of the lungs bilaterally extending to the pleural surface. Areas of high attenuation equivalent to dense calcification.
Case Discussion
Histology: in the interstitium and alveolar spaces abundant round, calcified bodies that occasionally ossify peripherally. The alveolar walls are somewhat fibrotic and widened. Occasional new bone formations in the pleural or subpleural area. Abundant pigment-laden macrophages as well as erythrocyte extravasates. Diagnosis: Alveolar microlithiasis.
