Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations

Case contributed by Dr Mahomed A. Osman
Modality: CT

Marked pulmonary vascular dilatation of both the pulmonary arterial and venous systems bilaterally. Dilated vessels extend into all lobes of both lungs, with extension of the dilated vessels to the lung peripheries. Findings are consistent with multiple pulmonary arteriovenous malformations.

Modality: DSA (angiography)

Selective catheterisation of the right descending pulmonary artery and its respective branches confirms presence of multiple pumonary AVMs.

Modality: X-ray

Post coil embolisation.

Multiple endovascular coils are noted within the left lower and right  mid and lower zones, consistent with previous AVM coil embolisation.

Case Discussion

Multiple pulmonary AVM's are strongly associated with Hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia.
