Pulmonary calcifications - chronic tuberculosis

Presentation

Work-up for shortness of breath and cough.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Female

Pronounced emphysematous changes in both lungs, more prominent in the left lower lobe and both lung apices. Multiple nodular and mass-like calcified lesions in the right upper lobe and apex of the left lung. Several non-enlarged calcified mediastinal (superior and inferior right paratracheal) and right hilar lymph nodes.

Ascending aorta is mildly dilated, up to 42 mm in diameter.

Case Discussion

Large nodular or mass-like calcifications, particularly in the upper lobes, most likely represent calcified granulomas such as chronic tuberculosis.
