Pulmonary consolidation

Case contributed by Dr Aditya Shetty

History of dyspnoea associated with cough for 1 week.

Patient Data

Age: 25
Gender: Female

Right opacified hemithorax with central position of trachea and normal position of the heart shadow.

The patient is mildly rotated.

Case Discussion

This is a case of right-sided consolidation, which is one of the stages of pneumonia.

The central position of the trachea is the clue to the diagnosis.

An element of pleural effusion cannot be ruled out on x-ray but can be confirmed by ultrasonography.
