Pulmonary hepatisation

There is consolidation of left lung with moderate enhancement patchy consolidation is also noted in the perihilar right lung. Moderate left sided pleural effusion is noted. Findings are suggestive of lobar pneumonia

Case Discussion

Hepatisation is a stage of lobar pneumonic consolidation. In early stage there is haemorrhagic fluid with in the alveoli which gets organised results in pathological appearance called "red hepatisation". Later on fibrosis occurs in the organised exudate leading to an appearance called "gray hepatisation".
