Widespread variable-sized discrete bilateral lung nodules measuring up to 3 cm.
Heart size normal.
Lungs clear.
Case Discussion
This plain radiograph is a perfect illustration of the elegantly French-described appearance of widespread lung metastases: the flight of ballons (envolée de ballons). In English, it is less elegantly and more aggressively termed cannonball metastases.
A subsequent renal cell carcinoma primary was identified. The malignancy is most, but not exclusively, associated with this appearance.
