Four-day history of hemoptysis prompted chest x-ray, 1-month history of shortness of breath and chest pain on initial presentation. Non-smoker. An avid runner, otherwise fit and well.

Opacification and consolidation with cavitation is noted in left upper lobe. Left sided pleural effusion.

CT confirms the cavity within the left upper lobe.
Case Discussion
This patient was an avid runner, otherwise fit and well. No recent foreign travel or confinement in a small space with other people. A sputum sample was AFB smear positive and cultures grew Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
