Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

First carpometacarpal arthroplasty using the PyroDiskTM implant. Implant migration noted with approximately one-half first metacarpal base displacement. Thin 1 mm periprosthetic lucency.

Case Discussion

Pyrocarbon interposition (PyroDiskTM) arthroplasty is a non-superior alternative to trapeziectomy for first carpometacarpal osteoarthritis.

These implants have a 0.5 mm pyrolytic carbon coating and a 0.5 mm periprosthetic lucency is a normal radiological finding.

Macroscopic displacement is quantified as a displacement of more than one-fourth of the first metacarpal base.
