Case contributed by Dr Ammar Haouimi

Chronic anterior knee pain.

Patient Data

The MRI sequences demonstrate moderate hypertrophy of the quadriceps fat pad of high signal on PD fat-saturated sequences with a convex posterior margin with a mass effect on the suprapatellar recess. No significant joint effusion is seen.

Intact menisci and cruciate/collateral ligaments.

Case Discussion

Hypertrophy with edematous infiltration of the quadriceps fat pad in addition to the clinical presentation is suggestive of quadriceps fat pad impingement syndrome.
