Radial head fracture

Case contributed by Dr Wayland Wang

Fall on outstretched hand (FOOSH).

Patient Data

Age: 40
Gender: Female
Mildly displaced radial head fracture extends to the articular surface in associated with a relatively large haemarthrosis.

Case Discussion

The anterior and posterior sail signs are very helpful and indicate the presence of an elbow joint effusion. In this case, the fracture is only visible on certain projections, however the presence of the sail signs should set off a thorough search for an underlying fracture.
