Diagram demonstrating the loss of radial height during distal radial fracture. Note: it is not ulnar variance but a loss of radial height.

Case Discussion

A normal radial height is within the range 8–14 mm, the values range from publication to publication, it is often mistaken for ulnar variance but it is infact a loss of the radial height rather than a variance in ulnar position.
