Presentation
Painless swelling in the left side of the mouth.
Patient Data

An oblong thin-walled homogenous cystic lesion is seen in the left sublingual space. It measures 3 x 1.9 x 1.6 cm in its maximum three dimensions. No calcification or associated solid enhancing components were noted. It crosses the midline anteriorly, however, no definite extension beyond the mylohyoid muscle or to the submandibular space could be appreciated. The described CT findings are consistent with simple ranula. Normal appearance of the submandibular salivary glands.
Case Discussion
The term ranula describes the cystic space beneath the tongue as being like the pouch of a frog. It represents a mucocele within the floor of the mouth. The one described in our case is a simple ranula, not a plunging ranula note the difference in the findings above.
