Incidental finding of chronic sphenoid sinusitis

Note the "Claw" sign = enhancing rim of compressed pituitary surrounding nonenhancing cyst

"Claw" sign = enhancing rim of compressed pituitary surrounding non-enhancing cyst.

Rathke cleft cyst is a nonneoplastic cyst arising from remnants of embryonic Rathke cleft

Top differential diagnoses:

  • Craniopharyngioma

  • Cystic pituitary adenoma

  • Other nonneoplastic cyst

The Claw sign has also been used in radiological literature with respect to Wilms tumour.
