Reactive gallbladder wall thickening

Case contributed by Dr Faheemullah Khan

Presentation

Abdominal pain and loss of weight. A diagnosed case of hepatitis C. Now presents with liver cirrhosis.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
Ultrasound

Oblique view of the gall bladder with the large probe (3-5 MHz) shows increased wall thickness (more than 5 mm). Note is also made of coarse liver and ascites.

Case Discussion

Reactive gallbladder wall thickening (greater than 3 mm) can be seen in liver cirrhosis, hepatitis, right heart failure, ascites and acute pancreatitis. In our case, this was probably secondary to liver cirrhosis.
