There is an elongated mechanical foreign object in the rectum and lower sigmoid colon. The sigmoid colon proximal to this is prominent, but is not abnormally dilated. Extensive feces is seen in the remainder of the colon to the proximal large bowel. No evidence of bowel obstruction. No features of pneumoperitoneum on these supine films.

Case Discussion

Rectal foreign bodies are often the source of much mirth in various hospital departments, however can result in serious complications. Once the case has been shown around the department, one should carefully search for signs of bowel obstruction or perforation.
