Rectal foreign body - light bulb

Presentation

Intense acute abdominal pain. Patient did not want to explain what had happened.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

The radiograph revealed a foreign body projecting over the pelvis. The foreign body is well-defined and recognizable as a light bulb.

Case Discussion

The patient did confirm he inserted a light bulb into his anus. He had done it before. Psychiatric staff interviewed the patient, he is aware it is not a healthy practice.

The object was retrieved by performing abdominal manipulation under anesthesia. Fortunately, the object did not break.
