Rectus femoris muscle injury

Presentation

Football related indirect injury to the right anterior thigh about 4 weeks before the presentation. Pain in anterior mid-third thigh region with sports activity. No pain during routine activity.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

The region of pain (anterior mid-third thigh) shows a fluid cleft, discontinuity of muscle fibers involving the rectus femoris muscle. It is lateral and away from the central aponeurosis. It measures about 45 x 18 x 8 mm.

The direct and indirect heads of the rectus femoris muscle are normal. Superficial, central, and deep aponeurosis are intact. The rest of the quadriceps muscles are normal. The quadradriceps tendon is intact.
