Rectus femoris origin tendon ossification

Case contributed by Hazem M Almasarei
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Painful range of motion, without trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

The anterior inferior iliac spine and rectus femoris tendon appear rib-shaped with abnormal ossification and calcification of the right rectus femoris muscle tendon, representing anterior inferior iliac spine and rectus femoris tendon ossification.

Case Discussion

Ossification of the proximal origin of the right rectus femoris muscle from the anterior inferior iliac spine is suggestive of chronic tendinopathy or prior injury. If it is surrounding the joint it can cause a range of arthropathy, e.g. subspine impingement.
